Session 7: Development, Media Choices and Considerations

discuss the use of new media in online learning.
Using a new media in online class making the subject easy to deliver , flexible, fun to learn and practice . online learning give more chance to many people master their skills especially using different kind of media .Also the new media allow us to sharing our work with other people who work in the same place at the same time with other student. for example using digital video with any student make the content easy to understand because in this kind of video their will be a lot of images and voice attraction. This kind of video will make the student more active . the student in online class have more responsibility about content and they are willing to use deferent kind of media because this kind of media give the opportunity to teach and student perform and show their best . for example. in online science class the teacher may give assignment about bugs life. The teacher in this class will provide student with good video,podcast,youtube,power point presentation and digital picture all this tools will support and improve the topic. The student reaction will be in this type of online class they will try to listen to the teacher podcast and re play it many time, send e mail to the teacher if student don’t understand any point and post their assignment in their blog. All these tools that the teacher and student use it in online course make the course excellent to use and deliver .

My experience with the new media when I came in the united state and start to talk an on line class in ETEC program at CSUSB was challenging to me and so difficult to use at the beginning becouse i never been dealing with this kind of program in my life. after i took online course every thing become clear to me and i learn many thing through these coursess like creat blog,video and oudio and master my online skills. it was nice experience and i like it. I learnd in this program how to interact with other student and chat with them through black board also intract with professor by using different media before attending this program my uses of media was limited because the thing that I know to use is just e mail and chat tools nothing more but in this program I learn plenty of new media. .

Blog:
Blog is one of communication tools that can been use in any on line class .it is has two way of communication, instructor-student and student-student. In my class I will make my student to create an account in any blog sit like blogger, wordpress and taypepad because these blog is free and not cost any thing and easy to use .student can download their assignment ,picture ,video and links without having any problem in their blog and comment on each other work and post any question if they have, it is easy to use and not complicated.

Email is commen methoud of e learning and oldest colllaboration mechanism ) Hortoon 424 there are may people like to use becouse it contain privacy that send from one person to another one of the best tools I have deal with before 8 years ago and it is best way of communicate with other and had two way of communication student-instructor, student- student
In my class the student will sent their assignment after they post it in their blog after I receive these e mail I will grated and send it back and I think e mail is one of the fast way of communication tools I see and it is easy to use. student can also, send their question, post picture record their voice and send it as attachment . also,I may use in my class e-mail broadcast for urgent class announcement like if I want to reschedule our online meeting or some of my student are delay sending their home work .

Bulletin boards, forums PHPBB
I never deal with this kind of technology before in any of my online class but it seem better than black board and fashioned threaded discussion systems that I have deal with.but the professor Newberry describe this tools is better than black board and discussion boards doctor bechose of the high technology that tools implement. I think post thing in bulletin board like announcement or any kind of document because of the features that make these discussions much richer and the interaction between users much more effective. I wish to deal with this kind of technology in the future.

threaded discussions
This is one of the communication style in online learning between student each other and professor to . when I take online class which is 543 online class in this class we have to post every things in the thread discussion page in order to communicate with other and professor to. And get quick feedback from the professor and other student . Threaded discussion format encouraged student express themselves and information they have without feel shy, formulate their information at a deeper level. Also,All student get quick feedback from the professor or other student so each student can evaluat there work and make it better . In this technology all student try to support diverse talents they have and approve them self and ways of learning process .the disadvantage of this technology .All the massages that I post in this page be at the end so the instruction of the page look not organized very will and it is so hart to go over the long post that I want to read. On the other hand in this page all students can share each other idea with their professor or other student. I agree wit doctor newberry that it can be difficult to follow all of the threads, especially long ones, without some frustration because some time when I want to check what other student say about the topic I have to open many other student threads because it is not clear and organized

Black board
Black board is the place where the instructor post their syllabus and schedule for their course so all the student can review it . my experience with the black board was bad because at the first time when I try to open my black board there was problem in the university system that thing make me wait for two day and make me contact with the university technical department and at the end the problem had been solved then I was been able to look on my course.

Skype and dim dim VOIP
these are multimedia technology is so useful in online learning. It give many opportunity for user by using video, recording there voice and writing chart. they is also free we don’t have to pay anything to get this service. these program give the opportunity to student to chat with their teacher and each other so it has two way of communication. It is like face-to-face discussions. This technology give the opportunity to all teacher to use video or voice, it depend on the situation that student and teacher face it . In Skype the students have an opportunity to reflect their idea to the teacher and discuss their home work before posts or submitting them. All students can communicate with each other or their teacher without have any difficulty in log in. Skype discussions room make student share their ideas with other student .In Skype student can ask a lot of question to other friend or their teacher and get quick feedback. It is free so everybody can use it .my experience wit this technology is interesting ,I can imagine my life without having chat room like skype because in this kind of media I can talk and see at the same time. every two day I contact with my family using skype For example , in my class I will use this technology in order to present my lecture and communicate with my student. I like to use dim dim program it is better that skype because in this program the teacher can present her course document and talk at the same time I like this program because I when I took my ETEC501 course the professor was present all her document that related to her course and talk with us at the same time and we were respond to her by writhing on the chat screen. Some time the Skype program sign me out without any reason and this program take not big amount of student not more that 20 in chat room.

chats, instant messaging
chat is a good tool of communicating between techer-student.student student each other. My experience with chatting device is good I always use chatting program in some of my online class to communicate with other student and teacher at the same time for example, i chat with my family all the time during the day by using chatting program on my cell phone but the thing that I hat like what doctor Newberry had mention not every one writing fast. I am one of those people who not write to fast I prefer talking and using video to see my friend when I use for example skype. In some class when we use chatting room for doing like project it make the work become easy because we write chare our through and correct each other mistake then we could post it in our paper in this kind of project we are not more than five student because I think if we are to many can not focus and we will feel confuse.

Podcast
pod cast is one of good media I will try to conduct in my class because this technology I find it in many of my online class. Podcast is consider one of good tools to deliver the content. I can see doctor Newbery use this type of technology in this class to make the content clear to his student and he provide as with test and some time video podcast . One of doctor new berry class has require creating pod cast I try to create video that include my voice but it does not work because the scribed was not match the same slide that things make me feel angry and delete my voice. I like to use mp3 because it gives a clear voice and it is better than real player. I always try to down loud my voice document as mp3 but my problem that I face problem to downloaded in my blog. The thing that I like about the podcast I can listen to my mp3 player lecture every were in my car, I pad and computer.
streaming video, video-cast
I don’t have any experience with streaming media .it seam interesting for me it contain a lot of action and I think this kind of media will effect the class in positive way . I never deal with this kind but I am welling to.

Power Points
Power point is one of good communicating tools in online class . in my class I provide my student with power point this good program that I use is offer by microsoft office word. In my power point I pot all the information for mystudent the can fallow . my first experience with power point was so nice my teacher at school learn me how to use it when I was in the fourth grad. I down loud all my family picture and presented to them. All my family was happy that I learn a new thing that match my interest.

YouTube, TeacherTube, Flickr
This technology is the best use to use for many people especially teenager’s In the you tube there are a lot of good high quality video that offer in this site. Teacher can use this video to support their subject. The best thing about this program every one can download their video and char it with everyone around the world. In my course I provide a good youtube links that support my subject and I like to use youtube that been created by other ,even the doctor at the university use this video to support their subject. I also use you tube as personal reference of my favor it songs . you tube also could be lock that mean there is some video that can not be review by other public people because some time this video is created for special people and the creature does not like to chare it with other. Teacher tube I think is good tools for teacher to recorded their voice and content at the same time . I never use this kind of youtube but I will try to use it in my real class to record my voice and content . then char it with my student mackinely suggest me to use it but I still try to find a way to use it. I never use Flickr befor but I witch to learn how because in my class I plan to ad in my course because it is Flickr allows users to both consume and share media in the case of Flickr the media that a shared are digital photographs. . in my course I will use many picture and I need to have my student comment on these picture in order to make my course better.

Second life.
Second life is multi-user environment functions as an alternative reality so the user can be whoever or whatever they want to be. I never deal with this kind of situation I think I have deal with second life program but I did playing a game call resident evil and I did war a glass that make me feel I am really inside that game. It was really fun and I enjoy the experience. In the real word I hope to learn how to make this kind of technology program. I think my student will enjoy this kind of experience if I create for example I was pre school teacher if I create a story on the computer that has 3 dimension view the children will be focus on the story and like it to

Scenario
For example I will try to create an online course to teach student how to create blog the thing I will try to use in this course is contact with my student on skype, Post some good links in my website, make my student send me an e mail if they don’t understand any part of my course and do step by step power point and some good video links I will provide my student each week with home work to make sure they understand the course or not.At the end of this course will be final quize that to make sure they master their skills .
