Session 6: Development Process Overview

Preparation;
This course is challenge to me ,because I never teach online course .But in this assignment I did my best to make this course in good shape and I plan this course upon on my online class Experian. I read alot of arabic book and i ask my friend who teach arabic how can i present my content.Also how can i interact with my students and be dood instructor an how can I make my progress development of my course.
As instructor and international student I know exactly what other international student want to learn and study another language especially Arabic. In this class I thought how to make learning new language is interesting to other student and i try to collect all the document that make the course is easy for my student to fallow.

Also, in my syllabus i write instruction on what students have to do every week and the way of interaction will be and how cold my student should submit thir home work in thier blog and send it to the teacher as e mail.Also, i provide the student with good links that help them in this course.

Session 5: Individual Project

Course Content Characteristics:

The course that I design is teaching Arabic language by using online tools. the aim of this course to make non Arabic student well known how to read ,write, and speak like Arab people and learn how to use the internet tools at the same time and create their own blog .This course is design and build up for university freshmen and adult student who has experience of use internet tools .
This course is consider as an elective course to those student who try to have more than one language. It is basic course. That mean this course is an introduction to the Arabic language. The student will learn some vocabulary ,how to do short sentence and learn how to pronounce the liters, word and sentence. The student will learn how to use some of technology tools like using blog, e mail and Skype that offer as a free tools on the internet .This is a hyper course that led by instructor that require many interaction and activates such as home work ,quiz, text, pronunciation, reading ,writing, speaking ,singing, and power point. The task of this course is combining between convergent and divergent. But it is mostly divergent content that each student has to develop their speaking and reading and writing in Arabic along with the instructor material that they have to fallow for example like syllabus, schedule and text. The student will provide with lecture in deferent style like story , description and explanation trough dim dim. The course all depend on each lesson material of the course .In this course the student should explore the content of the course by using some links that I will provide for them and doing research on the internet .Moreover, The content should be a convergent content so the student can answer the course material that related to the Arabic grammar there is just one write answer in this kind of question .In this course the teacher will provide student with a direct instruction and model that make that led them to the correct answer and make my student e mail me if they don’t understand the home work or the licture. I will try to make quick respond and give feedback and I will help each student to make student discover the correct answer by asking them a several question before begin my class . Also , provide student with clear schedules so they can know what to do in each week and syllabus make the student led them self to the success in this class. The student who take this course must finish the Arab 101in order to take this hyper class. This is totally online class. The course will be given in deferent way first of all through dim dim and skype when the content is complicated and need more information to be clear to the student and has some pronunciation activity. Teaching this level is not complicate because the adult university first year student are more conduct with their work and they fell more responsibility with develop their skills .The content that provide to the university student will match there need in their career . The student may face problem with pronunciation part and word order because it is deferent from English .
The course material can be use many time during the week. This is a 5 week intensive. this course will save energy so the student can found syllabus, schedule, good links and power point they want to learn and expense so the student don’t have to buy CD learning Arabic program in order to develop there skills and come at university campus . This course does not require from my student to buy any web side all they need is to access through every lecture every thing that I give to my student will be recorded in dim dim ,Skype, podcast so the student can return to the lecture and see and listen to it may time. This course is flexible, interesting and motivate student to know more a bout this new language that they are study.
The most salient characteristics of the content that that I believe will impact my design is the course content and my student reflection on the material.

Instructor Characteristics:

This course is to easy for any instructor that has good technology and teaching skills and know how to motivate student to learn in this class. This course can be use by any expert instructor because this material has been created by a good instructor who has fairly good teaching skills in this field. The instructor who teach this course must know about student need and make sure how should use online tools like blog ,dim dim and record his voice and use pod cast. The instructor should be expert in teaching language and have long time experience more than 5 years. The instructor should be expert of using computer so if the instructor faces any problem with course can fix it. The structure should be fixable with content and change it upon on student need. The instructor must test the content that the instructor provides for his student many times to make sure everything is good. The instructor should look over his e mail all the time and check student blog to see their student progress and how do they communicate with each other before represented to his student. The instructor who teach this kind of course are highly motivated and well known how to use the constant in creative way.
The course that I provide for my student will develop their language step by step in this class and provide them with deferent skills and topic.
The thing that will impact my design is all the instructor must be export of using online tool and have long time of experience to teach this kind of online course and have faith with their student ability.

Try to give this course to other expert people in Arabic field so I can do any changes with my content if there is any and get good feedback.

Student Characteristics:

The student will be university freshmen student and adult from deferent ages that want to learn Arabic and I expected to have not to many student less than 15 because I believe the less student I have the more energy and things and information I can provide them . moreover, this is a Synchronous content online class that require online meeting and student commitment to do their best in this course .the student are motivated to learn new language Before I begin my class I will provide them with a survey to know the level of technology they have but I think I will have student who has good technology skills and have background of how to use computer and they have take online class before because if not they will have some difficulty with this course. The student will communicate with the instructor ,contend and each other in this course in this course the student will have the feeling that they are take face to face class. Also, the student will try to do their best in this class because learning more than one language is good for their career in their future

Session 4: Instructional Design For Online Classes

How can good instructional design ensure that the course meets student needs?
From my experience .I think when teacher ask students in the first day class meeting what they want to learn in her course so the teacher could designed a good course that match student need. Also , when student interact with teacher face to face or on line by asking several question about the topic so teacher can answer all these questions then the teacher should ask his student as fed back to know how did student understand the information. Also , when professor want to make shore that all student understand lecture, the professor will ask a lot of question and give home work and exercises to student. The successful professor provide his student with syllabus that has all the information about the course so student can prepare himself very well and know what to do in each lesson that is the accomplishment that professor want to receive when his student understand his lesson. Also the teacher could give the opportunity to all student to shoes a topic of each class to start with.
How can good instructional design ensure course quality?
When a good instruction creates designed for his course. The instruction must go over the material of the course many times to know from where to begin. Also must ask his self how to present the course in positive way .Also, the instructor should test his course material in deferent computer or with his other friend to make shore that his course is working very well and match student skills and make shore the course working at the same level and at the end of the course evaluate the process of the activity very well. Moreover, professor must be concern about the quality of the information that he provided to student. Also, Professor teaching diversity should provide his information through deferent way by face to face lecture, if he want to get quick feedback from student or using on line devises like podcast ,record his lecture as video and use dissection bored so that can make the class more effective .when professor give online lecture he must be shore that all student connected with him all the time so the professor can go all over the answer in flexible way.

To design the course I would use university library to read a lot of books about teaching online course. And I will provide my student with course document and syllabus .When student use blogs at first time they will face difficulty because it will be a new experience for them . I will teach them how to create a blog to communicate with the course ,instructor and each other. The student must communicate in each other work and help each other. In this class there will be online helper to help any student need help. After student finch their homework and quiz .Also if they have a problem they will send me an e mail of the most difficult part that they are face it so that I can help them and give them quick feedback on where they are having problem with it. The CMC will limited student and teacher creativity because it provide teacher with limited tool so teacher cannot develop their student skills.

In developing my designed , I will provide my student all the information that they need to create there bloge and start posting there assignment and fallow them a step by step when they sent it to me by e mail there home work . I will provide my student video link and power point. I will be concern about student interaction with the course and communicate with each other. At the end of the course I will test MY student on the thing that I thought them to do , also I will give them a survey to know what they think about the course.

types of interactions that are most often used is using dim dim/skype,power point, blog , power point , e mail and text most all these type of interaction will make my student active in my class effective in the content area for which you expect to design instruction and if my student need my help it may will be face to face interaction.

Arabic language is one of the difficult languages to learn because each letter has special pronunciation Each student in this class has to focus on how to read, write and speak in particular way. The student in this class will know about the Arabic culture and how to deal with them.

In this class the student can reading the content many time because the text will be an available in the teacher blog as a link before beginning the class. The student can read it and have notes before the class begin and send an e mail if the student don’t understand any point so the teacher could clarify before begin of the class and I will answer him through blog .

Learner-Instructor content
In this class I will provide my student every week with text and new topic by using dim dim and I will present the text content as step by step power point through dim dim it is like face to face class because in this class I will meet my student every Monday at 6 pm.I have to cover each point and ask several question about it also I will use skype as a second option in this class .During the course section ,I will answer any question that may arise about the new topic .before I go to the other step and go over the meaning of the new word and make each student after the class taking a short quiz and send it to me by e mail and using blog and some time I will make them record their voice and send it to me by e mail as attach. I will provide my student with a good video link about each topic that we are going to take in order to make them prepare for the class the student will use e mail or chat telephone to communicate with me. or send to each other e mail and there will be a asynchronous interactions so the student can understand the material of the course and make them more confident with this new experience and the teacher will give them quick feedback. at the end of the course the student will present a presentation on what did they lean in the class.
Student interaction, the student will take a part in this class by comment in each other work after they take the class in each other blog and share their experience some time I will separate my class in group and each group will comment on other group .

There are freshmen university student that don’t have back ground in Arabic language and they want to improve their other language skills this student will have strong passion to do their best to become a translator or great teacher and reach their goal in their life

Chapters 2, 3 and 4 of the Horton text discuss three categories of activities:
Absorb type of activity enable motivated learner. In this course I will go with creating presentation and sharing stories about how to develop their Arabic language skills in deferent way through power point . this power point will be simple and clear for this student how I learn . I will do a syllabus presentation video or podcast as introduction of to my course .it will about what is the benefit of taking this course and how to use video course links and how should they practice the new topic before its start and the way of communication should be this thing will give a clear idea about the new topic. The content activity will be the student will read and talk and writ in creative . Text will be simple and clear for all student in the power point. each student can repeat it many time as they want. there will be pod cast activity after I give my lecture through Skype I will begin start recording every thing that I say even what other student mention in the class. also, the instructor will make sure that each student understand the material by asking them several question before the class begin. The stories practice will be as one of the activity inside the class there will be in the text some Arabic story and I will begin to complete the story in the content and then I will begin make each student to complete the story that lead as to the perfect conclusion then as a quiz I will make my student to summarize it .i will control this story by giving each student part of this story so I can make my student active in this class
Do activity of my course the student will do a practice activity its give learner experience applying information, Knowledge and skills and this will include handout (Horton p 105).I will give my student several reading, writing and listing activity every week in this kind of activity the student may discover anew information about the text content and have motivation to discover more about the content information and sharing their finding with their friend as a team work activates or their teacher .
Connect: the student will communicate with their content, by using stories told by the learner when they discuss the topic with their teacher or each other and use research activity in order to discover the meaning of new words .
Meditation activities I will help my student to match what did they learn and how to implemented in their life. In my class I will encourage personal example by ask learner to give an example of any new words that we take in class and give an example from their life and experience to make the student more active in my class
Evaluation activity. I will make my student at the end of the course rate the content that I gave to them so I can prevent any mistake in the future.

Think about the issues related to the impact of content, instructor and student characteristics in the design of online learning environments as discussed in the podcast. Have I overlooked any? How would you prioritize these issues? Also think about issues raised in chapter 8 of the Horton text: Instructor vs. Learner Led, synchronous vs. asynchronous delivery, class size, types of devices used, learners work environment, blended or hybrid learning designs, planning for reuse, etc.

After I read Horton book chapter 8 and listen to doctor Newberry podcast .This thing give me a good Idea to start create and develop and design a good on line class . I should begin and try to do my best to motivate my student and led all student the way that make them comfortable and satisfy with the document and have self improvement in the course time . the Chapter 8 go over the instructor- lead or the student lead and the advantage of each one of them in my position is the first one because i am the one how are expert and create this class . The second part is the Synchronous and asynchronous witch one of them are include more activity .My course has include the two part but i focus on the first part witch is synchronous so i can motivate my student in my course .the class size my class is small because i want to give attention to each one of my student and how this thing could affect the student that mean they will develop there language very fast and make the class more easy to handle.

I plan to designed an online divergent class that teach student how to speak and read Arabic .Moreover , The content should be a convergent content so the student could not feel confuse and have all the information the student want to learn are organized . in this course I will provide my with a direct instruction and model that make that led them to the correct answer I will respond to my student and make my student have quick feedback and I will help each student to make them discover how to correct there answer by asking several student before beginning each class a several question before to make sure my student understand the contant. Also , provide student with clear schedules make the student led them self to the success .

The way of communication and activity:
Synchronous and asynchronous In this class we will be online meeting on dim dim , talkshoe and Skype every week . asynchronous when the student want to discuss home work that related to the new topic with the instructor.
The course environment :
the student will take there course in any place. there is no certain place to take this course because the course I design can be taken in any place. I will do meeting in the first class to know if the student have good internet connection or not in order to be demonstrated with my content
The way of feedback

I will correct student home work as soon as I can so they can get a quick feedback and solve their home work problem and scored so they can know which level they are At the end of each topic there will be a quiz that they have to answer all the question that I gave them and i will do a check list so i can know how many skills they know so far .

I plan to have less than more than 10 less than 20 students so I can focus on each student work because I think the more I have student the less focus I will be with each student .

In this class the student will use any kind of device so they can review the material any were they want by desktop , laptop computer ,mobile phone, media players, Table computers and personal digital assistance.

i will use video broad cast and e mail “this kind of mixing learning activities and requires so many design decision that has different level for example personal, tactical, mechanical, paralytic and strategic that depend on mixed classroom and e learning event that based on subject matter and goals” Horton,p .382 )

The content should be created in creative and simple way so the student can go over the question and answer them without having any confused with content . in this class the student can communicate with the teacher in easy way and get a quick respond so they can go over the answer to gather or the teacher can provide her student with her online office hours so they can communicate tools like talkshoe

Content: This course will cover beginning college algebra.

The instructor: The first thing The professor must know there student ability to learn and what their level in algebra. Each professor has their own style of learning some of them may use a high quality of technology could create a step by step video that include there voice and task at the same time so each student can go over it many time . like use internet fetchers like create there own web side and, recorded there lecture on his web site so student can use it easily and this web site has privacy with their student. This teacher has high quality of teaching give there student a lot of exercise and question at the end of the lecture so this professor can review the exercise that the student does not answer it very well. The second type of professor use basic technology power point, charts, over head projector to in reach their class, video and E- mail.
this type of course the best thing to do is stand alone presentation .the person who has more experience and higher degree will try to be more demand than other on his content that mean after each vide or podcast that teacher will provide for his student he will ask them to do even short quiz or a home work that mean the student has to be update with his teacher to understand the course because algebra is one the difficult course that need more focus on the material. At the end of this course in order to make sure all his student are success . The course will be with the instructor- led so he can control the course . even the size of the class should be small class not more than 20 student so the student could have more assistance from there teacher. The teacher should give student quiz so that teacher could know what are the student do in this class. The instructor should provide his lesson to his student trough podcast video ,PowerPoint and i movie. student can have the content should be a violable for all student and they can get it any time through any kind of devise such as laptop ,mobile and notebook.in this class the student can communicate with the teacher in easy way and get there respond so they can go over the answer to gather or the teacher can send a student a hint to the way that allow the student to correct there work.
Student: freshmen and sophomores must know how to use technology. Also, sharing there answer with their professor. Also there are successful in on line class. When the student use internet accesses they have to be familiar with it. Each student in algebra class are helpful with each other in case if the student does not know the answer of the question this student has many choices first he/she can send e mail to the professor or they can comment in each other blog. In Each group the instructor could pot a tauter to help other student to help other students that have difficulty with question .Each student in this class can communicate outside the university by chatting on the messenger chatting room to answer the difficult question.

Instructor(s): The instructor is an experienced face-to-face instructor with good tech skills and prior online teaching experience. This instructor prefers lecture and discussion classes.
Students: Graduate students who are well motivated and with a wide range of technology skills, from very basic to very advanced.

This course is led by instructor because according to doctor Newberry this a type of Divergent content often has no clear single best path for developing the best answer.” because there is no Wright or wrong in this case the material this subjects that are fuzzy material with make it difficult to identify a single right answer..
The professor focus on tow way face to face meeting and on line program. In this kind of class the professor concentrate on the student skills of understanding the martial of the course and how to get the feedback from the student very fast. In this class the professor design a good environment and give question to know the improvement of his and each lecture that the professor give has several question at the end. At the end of this class the professor give student paper to evaluate his teaching skills so the professor can improve his skills .In this program the professor can communicate with student by recording his lecture in the black board each question that student answer the program correct them it is go with student step by step. In this class professor can also separate the class in gropes that can share information listening to the lecture at the black board ,ask for help from other student ,
The instructor may implement a good direct course or do provide his student with video, PowerPoint that he create ,or several stories that need solution so the student can think in creative way because in this kind of class the student are more active that mean they like to explore a new information in this case the teacher should provide them with complicated cases that could attract their attentions trough the blackboard or video that make them think in creative way and make the solve any problem around them by give the student a case and let them explore how to deal with it. the student who has a good technology skills will motivate there instructor to develop his skills and try to use blended course like podcast to communicate with his student or talkshoe . But in the other hand the student who does not have a good technology skill the instructor may support them by make the student who has good technology skills teach the other part who has poor technology skills that make the class much better. In this type of learning course the student are not conform to the schedule that the instructor are provided for them you hear the instructor should” avoid providing too much explicit guidance or run the risk of students avoiding the more difficult path of developing their own approaches to the problem. Newberry. the best thin in this kind of course the teacher should give a hint and make other student try to find the information , lit his student use their imagination to think about what should they do to solve any problem and should provide his student with a clear guideline to communicate with student for example like make them communicate through e mail, blackboard or blog in order to deal with their teacher ,each other and content in the discussion board ,The way of communication will be in asynchronous activity to have more room charring information and divergent content that has many activities so student can experience whatever they want to learn and it may be face to face because the instructor are more capable with this type of communication.

Students: Students are incoming freshman who have been identified by advisors as high risk for drop out
The content of the course are not difficult I will try to create a course that make student to communicate with each other on the blackboard or skype every weeks and make them communicate with their teacher if they need any help .Also provide them with podcast, power point and good links and make them communicate with their instructor every time that they face a problem and arrange an appointment through two kind of device online or face to face. I will try to make the content easy so they could like this class and not drop it and also provide them with a visual material like video so they get interesting to this class and go over the course step by step so student don’t feel lost even my web page will be clear to read the content and chose a good color for it. instructor:This course all professor will try to educated them self by support them self. There is a big chance to failed but the new try is worth to teach it. Also give a clear syllabus and go over it before begin the class .Also, motivate there student and let them try to use different type of technology and move smoothly from level to another in this course by give them a feedback for their home work and ask them every time before beginning a new skills if they have any question so I can make sure that the student understand everything or make them contact me during my office hours
